The Central German airports have two corporate sites, Dresden and Leipzig/Halle Airports. The parent company of Flughafen Dresden GmbH and Flughafen Leipzig/Halle GmbH is Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG – and the latter has another subsidiary, the ground handling services provider, PortGround GmbH. The shareholders in Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG are the Free State of Saxony, the State of Saxony-Anhalt and the cities of Leipzig, Dresden and Halle/Saale.

The corporate group operates and develops the airports at Dresden and Leipzig/Halle with the aim of guaranteeing efficient infrastructure for air traffic to and from Central Germany. In doing so, Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG focuses both on developing passenger and freight air traffic according to needs at the Central German airports, tapping into new business fields and attracting new customers and businesses.

Passenger and freight traffic

Overall, more than 17,202 people work at the two airports. The corporate group itself employs there are more than1,400 people. They collectively ensure that passengers from Dresden and Leipzig/Halle can travel non-stop to city and holiday destinations in Europe, Africa and Asia. Passengers flying from Dresden and Leipzig/Halle can reach almost any other destination in the world with just one change of plane at a larger hub. The subsidiary PortGround provides the services that are required to handle passengers, aircraft and freight at both the airports. 

The parent company, Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG, looks after central tasks that are equally important for its three subsidiaries. They particularly include the strategy, finances, personnel development, sales, marketing, corporate communications, information technology, legal, insurance and property departments as well as central purchasing.
