Leipzig/Halle and Dresden Airports: volume of traffic in Q1 2024

The number of passengers passing through the Central German air-ports at Leipzig/Halle and Dresden continued to rise for flights to holi-day destinations during the first three months of the year. Leipzig/Halle Airport, which is dominated by tourist flights, handled about twenty-five percent more passengers than in the previous year. Flights to Spain, Egypt and Turkey were particularly popular.

477,399 passengers in total passed through Leipzig/Halle and Dresden airports during the first quarter; this was 15.2 percent more than in the comparable period in 2023. The number of aircraft movements – 21,556 take-offs and landings – was five percent lower than in the previous year.

Dresden Airport

145,606 passengers made use of Dresden Airport between January and March. Despite the loss of more than 160 flights due to strike action, this matched the level in the same period in the previous year.

The volume of passengers increased by about two percent to a figure of 60,385 in March when compared to the previous year.

The number of aircraft movements rose by 2.2 percent to 3,985 during the first three months of the year.

Leipzig/Halle Airport

The number of passengers using Leipzig/Halle Airport rose by 23.6 percent to a figure of 331,793 during the first quarter. About two thirds of all these passengers made use of tourist flights.

146,160 passengers passed through the airport in March. This figure was 30.5 percent higher than in the same month in 2023.

The volume of freight at Leipzig/Halle Airport was approximately 351,272 tonnes between January and March and was therefore one percent higher than in the previous year.

The number of aircraft movements fell by 6.5 percent to 17,571 during the first quarter when compared to the previous year.
